Former NY Giants coach Jim Fassel died of a heart attack at the age of 71 yesterday according to his son.

Jim Fassel, whose bold guarantee of a playoff bid late in the 2000 season seemingly catapulted the New York Giants to a spot in the Super Bowl, has died. He was 71.

The Giants said Tuesday that family friends informed them of his death.

Son John Fassel, special teams coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys, confirmed the death to the Los Angeles Times. He told the newspaper his father was taken to a Las Vegas hospital with chest pains and died while being treated Monday.
Jim Fassel, the 1997 NFL Coach of the Year, guided the Giants from 1997 to 2003, posting a 58-53-1 record. He was 2-3 in the postseason, including a 34-7 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the Super Bowl in February 2001.

RIP, too young, we're not promised tomorrow. Although this country does promise the freedom to pursue happiness :)

Probably a victim of the silent killer, heart disease. I was fortunate to survive my assassin six years ago, and now my cardiovascular system is 30 years younger.

Do what you can to make sure you don't have any blockages brewing. It's not easy, and it's not inexpensive since nobody will pay for such until it's too late, unless you get lucky like me.

I did pay attention to my body that faithful day, something just wasn't right although I was never "stressed". It would have been easy to ignore it.
